Icarus Films is a leading distributor of documentary films. Since 1978 the films in our collection have addressed areas of political, social and cultural concern. We work with independent producers from around the world, to help innovative and informative films find their audiences. We release approximately 50 films a year, and now distribute 1500 titles to theatrical, non-theatrical, educational, home entertainment, online and television markets across North America.
Each year we release six to eight top feature documentaries to theatrical audiences. In 2014 this included Chris Marker's LEVEL FIVE and Daniel Schmid's TOSCA'S KISS. So far in 2015 we have released DARK STAR: H.R. GIGER'S WORLD, and coming up in December is DREAMS REWIRED, with narration by Tilda Swinton.
The Icarus Films Home Video collection brings selected titles from our library to DVD, Blu-ray, and online platforms for the consumer market. These include landmark works by internationally recognized artists such as Chantal Akerman, Patricio Guzmán, Heddy Honigmann, Chris Marker, Bill Morrison, and Marcel Ophuls.
In October, 2014, we also began distributing on DVD the home video collection of KimStim Films, over 45 animated, documentary, and fiction feature films.
Icarus Films owns two specialized labels focused on healthcare and social services: The Fanlight Collection includes 350 films and DVDs on healthcare, nursing, medicine, mental health, disabilities, death and dying, global health, professional ethics, and aging.
